Agree on the depth of removal
List the vanity, countertop, toilet, tub or shower components being removed. Then decide the limits for tile, wallboard, floor assemblies and ceilings. Removing surface tile is different from taking a shower back to framing; the proposal should make that distinction visible.
Identify retained doors, windows, floors and adjacent rooms. If a fixture or vanity is intended for reuse, discuss access and attachment before assuming it can be recovered intact. Photographing the current condition helps clarify expectations but does not reveal everything behind the finishes.
Coordinate utilities and material questions
Water, drainage and electrical connections must be addressed by the responsible qualified parties before relevant removals. Explain whether services are shared with another bathroom or must remain available elsewhere in the home.
If material age, records or visible conditions suggest specialist assessment is needed, arrange it before disturbance. Hazardous-material testing or abatement is not automatically included. Where hidden deterioration appears, document the condition and review the next step rather than immediately remove additional structure.
Connect demolition to the Calabasas remodel
The City's guidance treats bathroom remodeling as potentially involving permit-controlled work. Confirm the actual removal and replacement scope for the parcel; a small room or unchanged fixture position does not prove that no approval is needed.
Plan an orderly bathroom handoff
- Review the remodel plan and mark removal boundaries.
- Confirm disconnections, protection, salvage and approvals.
- Remove the agreed fixtures and assemblies, with the route through the home protected.
- Review exposed areas, debris removal and what repair or preparation remains for the remodeling team.
Why access can matter as much as room size
Tile and fixtures can be heavy even in a compact bathroom. Stairs, carrying distance, narrow doorways and an occupied home can change the handling plan. Discuss container placement and the cleanup expected along the route.
A useful estimate distinguishes removal, hauling and any agreed preparation from plumbing installation, waterproofing and rebuilding. Cost and timing depend on those boundaries, material type, access and discoveries.

Questions about your project
Can the tub stay while the tile is removed?
That can be assessed, including the risk to the retained finish and the relationship between the assemblies.
Does demolition include installing new waterproofing?
Not unless the written scope specifically includes that construction work. Define the handoff to the remodeling trade.
What happens to the old fixtures?
State whether they will be salvaged, removed for disposal or handled by the owner before demolition.
Can another bathroom remain in use?
Potentially, subject to shared services, safe access and the planned isolation of the work area.
