Kitchen demolition in Malibu

A kitchen removal should give the remodeling team a defined starting point. DemolitionCA helps Malibu owners and contractors separate the cabinets, counters, fixtures and finishes being removed from the structure and services that need to remain.

Start with the replacement design

Identify the proposed kitchen layout before deciding how much to strip. Retaining the sink position may lead to a different removal scope from relocating the entire kitchen. Mark the limits of backsplash, flooring and wallboard removal so adjoining rooms do not become part of the job by assumption.

Appliances, sinks and cabinets intended for reuse should be identified early. Their attachment, condition and handling route affect whether recovery is practical. We cannot promise that an existing stone countertop or cabinet will survive removal intact.

Prepare the property for a focused tear-out

Review utility isolation with the appropriate trades before removing connected fixtures. An appliance switched off is not the same as a verified disconnected supply. Specify which circuits, pipes or ventilation components will stay for the remodel and which are included in removal.

The work route matters in a furnished home. Identify protected doorways and floors, a separation between work and occupied space, and a suitable loading point. Where there are stairs, a steep driveway or restricted parking, carrying distance and load size can affect the sequence.

Check the Malibu scope before starting

Confirm the parcel jurisdiction and required building or trade approvals with the City. Do not assume that a kitchen strip-out is exempt merely because the replacement design keeps its current layout. If removal extends into exterior walls or structure, review that additional scope before proceeding.

A practical sequence

  • Review the current kitchen, drawings and intended salvage.
  • Confirm boundaries, approvals, utility responsibilities and protection.
  • Remove agreed finishes and fittings in a sequence that preserves retained elements.
  • Review exposed conditions and leave the agreed area ready for the next trade; keep hauling records required by the project.

What affects price and timing

Material weight, tiled surfaces, fixture connections, manual carrying, salvage requests and disposal arrangements influence the work. Hidden conditions may require a documented change rather than continuing beyond the approved boundary. An estimate should say whether floor preparation, repair or specialist material work is excluded.

DemolitionCA is the demolition division of Coastline DC Inc., operating since 2002 under CSLB #813394. Business availability is Sunday-Friday, closed Saturday. Malibu also restricts Sunday and holiday construction, so onsite work is scheduled accordingly.

Questions about your project

Can cabinets be removed while the floor stays?

Potentially. The attachment and overlap between cabinets and flooring must be assessed, and protection or repair expectations recorded.

Will you disconnect the appliances?

The scope must identify who performs each disconnection and any regulated trade work before removal begins.

What happens if hidden damage appears?

Pause the affected work, document the condition and agree on the appropriate next step before covering or removing additional material.

Should my remodeler review the demolition scope?

Yes. Agreeing on the condition expected by the next trade reduces gaps between removal and construction.
